In 2014, a Swiss watch manufacturer, who had already been a client for some time, contacted us regarding a need they wished to cover: the tracking of watches during trade fairs and events. We proposed them an efficient and totally innovative concept: the tracking of parts thanks to RFID technology. That's how we started in event tracking.

A year later, a French jewellery and watchmaking company expressed a keen interest in the same solution. The first version met the primary needs of our customers but was not very ergonomic. With a different eye, Solid wrote a new specification and improved this solution, both from a functional and process point of view, thus creating SolShow.

In the course of time, other companies in the luxury sector have become interested in SolShow, often requesting evolutions, which are useful for companies that have already adopted the product. This allows us, in 2021, to have a complete and ergonomic solution, covering the desires and needs of the luxury market.

Challenges & solutions

Exhibitions are very important events for brands and bring with them their share of stress and logistical challenges. There is always the risk of an asset going missing, it is important to have an overview of the holders at all times and the responsibility of individuals must be clearly defined. In addition, closing inventories at the end of the day can be long and tedious.

How do you keep full track of the items on display at events? And how to reduce inventory time?

SolShow is a complete and efficient solution for the permanent tracking of parts during an event. It allows you to track each item individually and in real time, from the time it leaves the warehouse to the time it is displayed, to manage the inventory and to follow the activity of the items throughout the event. Based on RFID technology (UHF/NFC), it is intended to be almost transparent for the people working on the event so that they can concentrate on their work and service to customers. In addition, the time spent on end-of-day inventories is drastically reduced. Thanks to its ergonomic design, it is quick and intuitive to use by the people working on the event.

Entities & Features

Our solution is composed of two parts: a backoffice module that receives and processes the data coming from the fixed and/or mobile readers and formats them so that everyone can know the position of the coins at any given moment. And a mobile application that allows the transfer of responsibility for the coins between the runners and displays the different states of the coins.

The application manages entities that represent the different actors present during the events. These are :
- Users: any person using the system and/or who can take responsibility for a part
- Parts: all parts to be tracked must be inserted into the solution and paired with RFID
- Collection: defining a collection for a set of coins is useful for searching. Collections have no influence on the functioning of the system
- Tray: a tray is composed of one or more coins. The pieces which compose it must remain there as long as the tray is composed
- Locations: they allow you to define certain typical locations or places where the pieces are placed (showcases, shooting, etc.)
- Events: possibility to plan several events

The main features of the solution are :
- Identification of users, parts and locations by RFID
- Management of the main stock (in and out), reservations and entrusted parts
- History of the movements of each part
- Inventory by location using RFID technology (UHF)
- Transfer of responsibility for stock to runners and between runners (NFC)
- Management and indication of the status and location of each coin and real-time display on a large touch screen for the runners
- Simple management of the loading of coins in the marmots
- Creation of trays and verification of their consistency

Benefits of implementation

The implementation of our solution allows companies to have a real time vision, increased security, a reduction of the inventory time at the end of the day and an improvement of the quality of service. For market managers, SolShow allows immediate location of parts, limits customer waiting time at the booth, allows pre-booking of parts, and allows tracking of parts at the booth. For customers, our solution limits their waiting time on the stand and allows them to be served with even more professionalism. For the runners, SolShow avoids crowding in front of the central stock, relieves their fatigue at the end of the day thanks to RFID inventories and allows them to know the location of the parts at any time.
